Janet provides strategic marketing communications services, copywriting, research and creative development services for all McCulley Design Lab clients. With more than 20 years of progressive marketing and creative experience, Janet has developed identity and branding systems, environmental graphics and strategic marketing campaigns for both large and small clients and has been nationally recognized for her ability to connect with the designated audience.
In addition to her role as Managing Director of McCulley Design Lab, Janet is also co-founder of specialty pet retail concept Muttropolis, an innovative multi-channel retailer she founded in 2002. As founder, Janet managed retail operations, brand strategy, creative direction, consumer marketing, consumer insight, CRM, and online content for Muttropolis and Muttropolis.com. Janet’s unconventional approach to reaching target consumers garnered international attention for Muttropolis as the company was awarded “Hottest Retail Concept of the Year” by the International Council of Shopping Centers in 2006 and named one of Internet Retailer Magazine’s “Hot 100 Retail Sites of 2009.”
Prior to founding Muttropolis, Janet served for ten years as a Senior Marketing Executive at the multi-unit restaurant chain Jack in the Box, Inc, where she managed product development, product marketing, creative development and print and broadcast advertising during her tenure.

Named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2007 Award Finalist in San Diego, Janet’s work has frequently been featured on national television as well as in such publications as Forbes, USA Today, Entrepreneur Magazine, Newsweek and others. Janet is also regularly interviewed by national media outlets on the subject of pet industry trends and animal welfare and has appeared on NBC’s nationally televised TODAY show. With her extensive experience in consumer research and marketing, copywriting and video production, Janet also currently serves as Chief Trend Correspondent and “Trendologist” for Discovery Communications’ Animal Planet. She holds a B.A. in Communications from The University of California, San Diego, and currently serves on the UCSD Communications Alumni Advisory Board as well as the annual Voices For Children Gala Planning Committee.
